Fernando Ribeiro -

Fernando Ribeiro (born in 1966 in Guimaraes, Portugal) studied
Computer Science/Applied Mathematics at the University Portucalense in Porto,
Portugal, where he stayed lecturing for three years (1988-1991). He then went to
Cranfield Institute of Technology, Cranfield, UK, where he received his MSc
degree on Industrial Robotics in 1992 with a thesis based on developing image
processing tools for measuring steel beam straightness and this work is now
being commercialized by Integral Vision and being used at British Steel. During
his MSc a group project was carried out for British AeroSpace entitled "Fully
Automated Factory for Manufacturing Composite Materials Aeroplanes". He obtained
his PhD on 1995 at Cranfield University, Cranfield, UK, on Rapid Prototyping
using robots. This project was sponsored by Rolls-Royce. Since then, he is a
researcher and Auxiliary Professor at the Department of Industrial Electronics
at the University of Minho, Guimaraes, Portugal. His main works are on the
mobile and autonomous robotics, and he participated in over 12 cientific mobile
robotics competitions. His main research areas are Mobile and Autonomous
Robotics, Image Processing, Simulation and Multimedia.

Sampaio

Antonio Sampaio, has over 30 years of experience in working on
industry, at a company called INDUSTRIAL in Guimarães, making every sort of
components, on metalic and non-mettalic materials. He joined this group in
October 2000, and has since then participated actively on the team work. He
built all the mechanical components of these robots. |

Robotics (GAR) at University of Minho in September 2001, and is developing a new
mobile robot team from scratch. His main areas of research are electronics and
